This is happening because the su command to start transmission-daemon as the 'transmission' user tries to launch a subshell to execute the command in. There are two ways to fix this: 1) Use sudo instead of su: Attaching a patch for this. But it gives a password prompt for the transmission user if you accidentally start it as a normal user. Also, you might need to put a dependency on sudo 2) Install the transmission-daemon binary as setuid transmission. This seems like the 'right' way IMO Created attachment 387701 [details]
