I applied the anaconda patch for 3ware and got further (automatic partition got to disk druid) but then it abends with what appear to be the same messages n_andjelic got. I have the disk but I didn't know if you want it uploaded. (kershmr.net). Additional Information: System is IBM Server 320 (Pentium 133). Has four SCSI drives - two 18Gb and two 3Gb. I had Redhat 7.1 Installed but messed that up with fdisk and decided to install 7.2. This problem is almost always caused by a bad cd. Are these the retail cds? If not, did you check the md5sum of the ISO images before you burned them? I have the retail CD. Came in the box -- RedHAT Linus 7.2 and Red Hat Network "Built for Techncal Workstations". I select the server installation. You think the CD might be bad? Red Hat Linux 7.2 and Red Hat Network -- Not Linus (I've been playing the piano again, you know, the peanuts song -- Linus and Lucy). Hmm, the retail cd's probably aren't bad. The cdrom drive that you have is a DVD drive, right? Can you swap it out with a regular cdrom drive and see if the problem is related to the dvd drive? CD-ROM Drive SCSI - The machine is an old IBM PC Server 320 Pentium 133. I had 7.0 installed previously. Ok, looking back at the kernel output, the following part concerns me: <4>sda : READ CAPACITY failed. <4>sda : status = 1, message = 00, host = 0, driver = 08 <4>Current sd00:00: sns = 70 2 <4>ASC=3a ASCQ= 0 <4>Raw sense data:0x70 0x00 0x02 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x12 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x3a 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 <4>sda : block size assumed to be 512 bytes, disk size 1GB. <6> sda: I/O error: dev 08:00, sector 0 <4> unable to read partition table It looks like the kernel is having trouble with the SCSI drive. I'm changing component to the kernel. I am having a similar problem with a 3ware RAID card. It seems that if I configure RAID 0, it works. If I use RAID 1, I get a very similar message as bfox posted above and the install fails. I've always had trouble with IBM 320 servers and Linux (we have two), ever since the first install (RH 4.2). The trick goes as follows: Disconnect the SCSI CDROM from the wide cable, remove the wide-to-narrow connector, connect the CDROM directly to the narrow connector on the controller, using an extra narrow cable. You might need to check the documentation if you need to change the termination settings... This won't work if you use the external connector on the controller. Also, you should check the setup of the internal drives in the scsi-select (ctrl-B) menu to make sure that they are set to run wide. When we got the machines, they were set to run narrow, for some unknown reason... This exact bug happened to me when doing an http install (over a 10mbit lan)... I've got the same problem with an dell poweredge 2550 server raid 1 2x9 gb scsi I have tried every possible raid config, the cdrom i am using is an teac ide Hi guys, I just downloaded the iso's of redhat7.3 and get this same problem. I got an "old" Dell GXi (166 pentium i think). I bured the images first with nero, then with cdrwin. My first lines are tiny diffrent from what is pasted above: ------------------------------------------------------------- Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/bin/anaconda", line 633, in ? intf.run(id, dispatch, configFileData) File "/usr/lib/anaconda/text.py", line 427, in run dispatch.gotoNext() File "/usr/lib/anaconda/dispatch.py", line 144, in gotoNext self.moveStep() File "/usr/lib/anaconda/dispatch.py", line 209, in moveStep -------------and so on------------------------------------------ First time it happened it was _before_ i got to pick any packages, the second and last time was just after i selected all packes. Hope this helps a bit, and that this bug is soon to be fixed :) Hi,
I am new to Linux and just downloaded the ISO images (RedHat Linux 7.3)
yesterday and burned them onto CD using Roxio EasyCD Creator. However, when I
tried installing the OS, I faced exactly the same problem.
When I do a debug at the error screen, I get this...
> /usr/lib/anaconda/comps.py (486)readCompsFile()
-> raise TypeError, "comp file version 3 or 4 expected"
Don't know if this helps...
Rgds,
Steven.
Hi, Just did a MD5SUM check on the images I downloaded and found it to be different from the published ones from RedHat. This could probably be due to the download I did via GetRight. However, I did manage to successfully burn the image onto a CD and the CD booted successfully as well. I'm not sure if this contributed to the problem faced. Best Regards, Steven. The dump anaconda performed, for any interested
This is MY dump... I figured not EVERYONE would want to read it.
I got much the same error on a pretty standard 1Ghz P3... no SCSI devices, no RAID... The X-Server started during install also crashes every time since the first time I tried to do the install. THIS may be due to the fact that I've got a Voodoo5, but the rest? Thanks for the bug report. However, Red Hat no longer maintains this version of the product. Please upgrade to the latest version and open a new bug if the problem persists. The Fedora Legacy project (http://fedoralegacy.org/) maintains some older releases, and if you believe this bug is interesting to them, please report the problem in the bug tracker at: http://bugzilla.fedora.us/ |
