Description Dave Malcolm 2010-02-05 20:16:40 UTC
Description of problem:
See e.g. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packages/bugs/avant-window-navigator
All of the bugs have a summary of the form "[abrt] crash (detected) in NAME-VERSION-RELEASE".

It would make it much easier to deal with such bug lists with the following enhancements to the "summary" field:
  - please distinguish between the following:
    - unhandled Python exceptions
    - signal 6 (SIGABRT)
    - signal 11 (SIGSEGV)

For the case of an unhandled python exception, please include the summary text from the exception within the summary.

For the case of SIGABRT, it would be ideal if you could detect __assert_failed in the gdb backtrace and scrape out the assertion message.

For example, bug 531053 was filed with Summary:
  [abrt] crash detected in avant-window-navigator-0.3.2-7.fc12

It should instead have been filed as
[abrt] Unhandled Python exception in avant-window-navigator-0.3.2-7.fc12: ImportError: /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/awn/awn.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32

Similarly, bug 532918 was filed with Summary:
  [abrt] crash detected in avant-window-navigator-0.3.2-7.fc12

It would be much easier to deal with if it were filed as:
  [abrt] SIGABRT in avant-window-navigator-0.3.2-7.fc12: "avant-window-navigator: xcb_io.c:378: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret != inval_id' failed"

Changes like this would, I believe, make it _much_ easier to triage incoming bugs.

In bug 540131 ("[abrt] crash detected in avant-window-navigator-0.3.2-7.fc12"), I notice that the attachment has the line "Summary: TBf38d737a DesktopEntry.py:135:new:UnboundLocalError: local variable 'type' referenced before assignment" at the top. This is very useful information, should it have been used as part of the "summary" field of the bug? (I think so!)

Thanks!

Comment 1 Denys Vlasenko 2010-02-08 12:42:25 UTC
Committed a change which made bz reporter to produce summary like:

[abrt] crash in coreutils-7.2-5.fc11: Process /bin/sleep was killed by signal 6 (SIGABRT)

Comment 2 Denys Vlasenko 2010-02-08 17:19:53 UTC
Committed a change which does the same for python crashes. Example:

[abrt] crash in abrt-gui-1.0.6-1.fc11:
CCMainWindow.py:1:<module>:ZeroDivisionError: integer division or modulo by zero

Comment 3 Nikola Pajkovsky 2010-04-07 15:51:19 UTC
Committed a change which made bz reporter to produce summary like:

[abrt] crash in coreutils-7.2-5.fc11: __libc_start_main:Process /bin/sleep was killed by signal 6 (SIGABRT)

function name has limit max 30 chars. If you find longer function name let me know.
