Description of problem:
Please consider creating an ECL image configured with --enable-unicode.  I understand that there might be size or speed issues that make a non-Unicode image desirable, but I'm working with some code that needs the Unicode support.

Hmm, and now I need weak pointers, which were added in ecl 9.10.1.  If you haven't got time to make a new ecl build, do you mind if I help out?  I'm happy to comaintain as well, if that would help.
