Try booting with 'linux ide=nodma'. Does that help? Booting with "linux ide=nodma" does NOT help. I assume this command is given at the initial "boot:" prompt when installing (booting on the CD). Now, after I successfully installed RedHat 7.1 the warning about inconsistent partition table (step 3 above) is gone, and is no longer important. Worth mentioning is that I can create manually the layout I try to get when changing the automatic layout: /dev/hda: /boot 50Mb swap 256 Mb free 390 Mb /dev/hdb: / 810 Mb no free Automatic layout: /dev/hda: /boot 50Mb swap 96 Mb (though it fills up 192 Mb. Editing this to 256Mb for both gives the error) free 454 Mb /dev/hdb: / 810 Mb no free Hmm...weird. So the problem seems to have gone away after installing 7.1? Does upgrading from 7.1 to 7.2 work now? Well, the bug I'm trying to report is NOT that I cannot install 7.2 AT ALL. The only problem is when choosing the automatic sizing of HD-partitions I cannot resize the swap beyond the "default" 96 Mb even though there's plenty of HD space. The warning: "The partition table on /tmp/hdb is inconsistent. There are many reasons why this might be the case. Often, the reason is that Linux detected the BIOS geometry incorrectly. However, this does not appear to be the case here. It is safe to ignore, but ignoring may cause (fixable) problems with some boot loaders, adn may cause problems with FAT file systems. Using LBA recommended." given in step 3 in my initial description of this bug DID disappear after I successfully installed 7.1 so PLEASE IGNORE THAT STEP 3! (I guess initially the partition table was screwed up by some Microsoft OS and what-not.) The bug's still there though... ;-) But please tell me to shut up if this is of no interest, as I can install the 7.2 by partitioning the HDs manually. Could you try with the update disk at http://people.redhat.com/~katzj/7.2-updates.img? Place this image on a disk, boot with your original boot disk and type 'linux updates' at the boot prompt and then insert the new disk when asked. *** Bug 57487 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 57864 *** I am having the same problems. I am trying to install either Red Hat 9 or Fedora Core 1 (both terminate with code 93) I have tried several hard drives and CD drives, on seperate IDE buses and also with only one CD drive and a HDD on a single bus. I am pretty sure the problem is something to do with the Motherboard/BIOS as that is the only thing that I cannot (and have not) replaced. I am using: K7S5A Socket A Mainboard 1.2Ghz Athelon Processor Original BIOS (1983 or something) Onboard sound, etc 192MB DDRAM Matrox 4MB Graphics card (blew up my GeForce, see my luck?!) 40GB Maxtor HDD (Dedicated to Linux) I have a dual boot setup, but am not trying with that right now and it seems not to be the problem (same error no matter what i try) I'm getting that same "The partition table on /tmp/hda is inconsistent" message, install problems are as follows: 1. Warning message appears after I select my mouse (just before formatting with redhat9) 2. Setup continues as normal 3. Formats drive, still no problems reported 4. Copies install image to HDD, gets to 100% 5. Boom. Anaconda terminates and dumps code 93 (nothing else) 6. Kernel shuts down without error If anybody has any ideas could you post it here or email me at coldwinston Cheers Sean |
