Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf, if available), output of the dmesg command, system log (/var/log/messages), and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link above.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

Hmm, there is really nothing to see there.

Comment 8 cje 2010-03-15 19:37:39 UTC
i think i saw the same freeze, twice since the latest round of updates:

kernel-2.6.32.9-70.fc12.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.21.20100219gite68d3a389.fc12.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.5.901-1.fc12.x86_64
libdrm-2.4.17-1.fc12.x86_64
mesa-dri-drivers-experimental-7.7-4.fc12.x86_64

(i'm not sure if i'm actually using those 'experimental' mesa drivers though.)

the hang instantly freezes the entire system - the only option is to press the reset button or power off. haven't seen such an extreme freeze for years .. maybe decades!

my system is a desktop with a HD2600.

i've switched to nomodeset now and haven't seen another freeze since then.

Improving summary.

I believe I can reproduce that on similar computer (Dell 1545). It happens to me on shutdown and restart. When nomodeset is used, it works OK. How can I help in debugging this?

Comment 11 Vedran Miletić 2010-05-27 23:39:20 UTC
And it also happens in Fedora 13.

Comment 12 Vedran Miletić 2010-05-29 12:53:25 UTC
(Dell 1545, Radeon HD 4330)
Bad news: it also sometimes hangs with nomodeset.
Good news: 2.6.34-11.fc14 WORKS fine (no hang on shutdown) WITH modesetting (has some other bugs, but this one is fixed).

Update: 2.6.34-21.fc13.x86_64 from [1] works great, for me at least. Reporter, can you try it and report your experiences?
