I think the is most likely caused by ctags which also crashes gedit with the gedit-vala plugin when code completion is triggered.

It's a problem with compilation. I have reproduced the bug with fedora 12:

[gege2061@localhost ~]$ ctags-vala --extra=+q --fields=afmiKlnsStz -f - test.vala 

(process:1714): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: specified class size for type `CTagsVisitor' is smaller than the parent type's `ValaCodeVisitor' class size

(process:1714): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot create new instance of invalid (non-instantiatable) type `<invalid>'
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
