firefox starts fine, if there is no ~/.mozilla directory.
If this directory exists, firefox crashes upon start

How to reproduce
-----
1. rm -rf ~/.mozilla
2. start firefox: /usr/bin/firefix
3. Exit firefox
4. start firefox again: /usr/bin/firefox
5. firefox crashes

It happens each time (except maybe first time, see below) I execute firefox executable. Sometimes I get segmentation fault immediately with a message like this:

/usr/lib/firefox-3.5.8/run-mozilla.sh: line 131:  4538 Segmentation fault      (core dumped) "$prog" ${1+"$@"}

Sometimes (usualy first couple of times, or only first time afteter reinstall (I remove ~/.mozilla dir also) I get some glib and gtk warnings when execute firefox:

~]$ firefox

(firefox:3342): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid unclassed pointer in cast to `GtkEntry'

(firefox:3342): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid unclassed pointer in cast to `GtkWidget'

Same happens with newer versions of firefox 3.6.1 and 3.6.2 from remi repo. I have fedora-updates-testing and rpmfusion free-updates, free-updates-testing, nonfree-updates, nonfree-updates-testing repos enabled.

Comment 5 Denis 2010-03-18 16:10:50 UTC
Actually I was getting warnings (in that case firefox starts) only first time because, as Michael mentioned, firefox starts and shows warnings when there is no ~/.mozilla directory. With it it segfaults.

Comment 6 Denis 2010-03-18 16:16:21 UTC
Sorry for bad English : ). I am not sure if 'starts' is the right word if I want to say 'firefox shows up and works' and that's the case.

Firefox crashed on start up.

Comment 9 Michael Lausch 2010-03-19 05:51:16 UTC
If firefox is started from an account which has a .mozilla directory, but has not yet started the new browser version, the update checks start, succeed, and the browser starts. After closing the browser, and starting it again, it crashes witht the segmentation violation.

I captured a stacktrace with gdb:
Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.

Since the last upgrade to gtk2-2.18.9-1.fc12.i686 the bug seems to be resolved. firefox starts again without crashing.
In my opinion the bug was not in firefox, but in gtk and firefox only triggered it.

I just reported the bug and then saw your comment about gtk2-2.18.9-1, and after upgrading myself through the updates-testing repo, Firefox starts normally now.

okay, closing. please reopen if it still crashes with the new gtk2 package.
