Description of problem:

Missing dependencies upon urw-fonts for (at least) the following packages:

 virt-manager
 system-config-date

When running named applications fonts show as squares ([]). Errors when running system-config-date:

After installing urw-fonts all characters are human readable.

Additional info:

Installing urw-fonts is solution.

If you need fonts, install the fonts group.
