Description Hawk 2010-07-06 19:59:59 UTC
Description of problem:
Whenever I do something with my BluRay burner wit ha BD-R empty disk in it, the kernel spits out an Unhadled Sense Code error. It seems this error is preventing growisofs to burn my BluRay when executed via Cron. This occurred when I upgraded to FC13 from FC9 (fresh reformat install).

When I run the script that Cron runs by hand via terminal, the BluRay burns fine, but I still have the kernel issues.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
 growisofs -version
* growisofs by <appro.se>, version 7.1,
front-ending to mkisofs: mkisofs 2.01 is not what you see here. This line is only a fake for too clever
GUIs and other frontend applications. In fact, this program is:
genisoimage 1.1.10 (Linux)

Kernel:
2.6.33.5-124.fc13.x86_64 #1 SMP

How reproducible:
Very

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Load blank BD-R
2. Wait for Cron to execute script that calls growisofs
3. See the failed write

growisofs command:
growisofs -Z /dev/sr0 -speed=2 -R -J -V Backup-$DATE $TMPDIR

Actual results:
/var/log/messages
Jul 4 22:34:06 backup kernel: sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Unhandled sense code
Jul 4 22:34:06 backup kernel: sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE
Jul 4 22:34:06 backup kernel: sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Blank Check [current]
Jul 4 22:34:06 backup kernel: sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. Sense: No additional sense information
Jul 4 22:34:06 backup kernel: sr 1:0:0:0: [sr0] CDB: Read(10): 28 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 00
Jul 4 22:34:06 backup kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0

growisofs:
fails to write the disc. Gets right to where it is about to start writing and errors out.

Expected results:
the burnt bluray

Additional info:
BluRay Drive:
 BD-RE_WH10LS30

Comment 1 Chuck Ebbert 2010-07-14 22:07:22 UTC
This may be caused by hal polling the disk. Try running the command:

  hal-disable-polling

before writing a disc.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 13 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 13. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '13'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 13's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 13 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this
bug to the applicable version. If you are unable to change the version,
please add a comment here and someone will do it for you.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 3 Bug Zapper 2011-06-29 13:55:20 UTC
Fedora 13 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2011-06-25. Fedora 13 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
