Applying the newest kernel has eliminated the above messages. But still I can't get into runlevel 5. I get messages like "prefdm respawning too fast, stopped" Version Info: ====================== [root@el6b2 ~]# rpm -qa kernel microcode_ctl kernel-firmware kernel-2.6.32-48.el6.x86_64 kernel-firmware-2.6.32-48.el6.noarch microcode_ctl-1.17-3.el6.x86_64 [root@el6b2 ~]# ====================== /var/log/messages throws the below: =========================================================================== l 14 10:44:38 el6b2 kernel: type=1104 audit(1279084478.558:32): user pid=2507 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 subj=system_u:system_r:initrc_t:s0 msg=' op=PAM:setcred acct="root" exe="/sbin/runuser" hostname=? addr=? terminal=console res=success' Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 kernel: type=1106 audit(1279084478.558:33): user pid=2507 uid=0 auid=4294967295 ses=4294967295 subj=system_u:system_r:initrc_t:s0 msg=' op=PAM:session_close acct="root" exe="/sbin/runuser" hostname=? addr=? terminal=console res=success' Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: start-ttys main process (2514) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2513) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2530) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2544) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2558) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2572) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2586) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2600) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2614) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2628) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2642) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process ended, respawning Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm main process (2656) terminated with status 1 Jul 14 10:44:38 el6b2 init: prefdm respawning too fast, stopped Jul 14 10:45:31 el6b2 kernel: type=1129 audit(1279084531.702:34): ================================================================================ Note: Just in case, SELinux was in 'Permissive' Is this possibly because of interaction between the Nvidia graphics card and nouveau drivers on my DELL Precision T5400? I could be wrong though.. This issue has been proposed when we are only considering blocker issues in the current Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. It has been denied for the current Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. ** If you would still like this issue considered for the current release, ask your support representative to file as a blocker on your behalf. Otherwise ask that it be considered for the next Red Hat Enterprise Linux release. ** Can you post the dmesg and lspci output from the system ? Since RHEL 6.2 External Beta has begun, and this bug remains unresolved, it has been rejected as it is not proposed as exception or blocker. Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to propose this request, if appropriate and relevant, in the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Early RHEL6 releases required Nvidia proprietary drivers. Please re-open if this issue is seen with the latest RHEL6 update and the nouveau driver. |
