Description Bill Nottingham 2010-08-16 19:17:27 UTC
liveinst runs the same checks for memory as 'normal' anaconda. However, the
failure case is different:

1) run liveinst from desktop icon
2) checks memory
3) decides 'not enough, running TUI'
4) but isn't running in a terminal, so it silently exits

That's not the best UI. Perhaps if there's $DISPLAY + no terminal,
it should pop up a dialog and exit?

Bill,

have you tried this recently? How much memory did you have and what architecture? A rawhide patch from March (3d977a502d773a1b1764b73f8e423c5350e1f929 ) displays a graphical error message on a livecd (albeit on a 256 MB KVM it takes really long, like everything on 256 MB), but only for the second check.

In theory, on less than 256 MB you can be a victim of the first basic memory check, that one has no GUI. Seeing how slow things are with 256 MB it's hard to believe you were able to boot into GNOME and click the icon with less.

Not recently. I noticed on the RHEL 6 branch, where the installer memory requirements are set much higher.
