Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

In reply to comment#57...Dell had this to say:

I tested with __only__ VGA port and it didn't work.

I have tested the below scenario:

1) Booting up the system while a monitor is connected through the VGA port

and

2) Trying to switch the display after cold and hot plugging the monitor
connected through the VGA port.

In neither situations above do I see any display at all on external monitor.

 Thanks..

Hi Ben,

Can you verify if the VGA port is still working on your model? Dell tested with snap7 and it worked fine at that time, but when they tested with snap10 it was no longer working. And it is still broken in snap 12.

From IT:
2) On M4500 with nouveau driver, display switching doesn't work. However, I believe this is an issue with the Gfx driver. "xrandr -q" on this system doesn't even detect the external monitor. Just to remind everyone, this system has eDP which needed some extra work in nouveau previously.

Comment 5 Ben Skeggs 2010-11-02 03:12:28 UTC
This should all work now, I fixed the remaining issues I seen when the effected M4500 model was shipped to me.

Comment 6 Ben Skeggs 2010-11-29 22:40:16 UTC
Is there any update from Dell on this issue?

Comment 8 Rezwanul Kabir 2011-02-02 20:02:09 UTC
This can be closed based on Ben's comment. The only system that we had that was showing this issue was sent to Ben and he verfied the fix on that system. So, I am okay with closing the issue.
Thanks..
