Description rossrobert24 2010-09-03 02:07:15 UTC
Description of problem:
When a new kernel is installed and the system boots, it freezes right before X starts. I have tried KMODS AKMODS nvidia driver updates... everything on the fedora forum and IRC. Nothing seems to get the updates to run. I am on kernel 2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64 and have had to reinstall 4 times trying to fix this problem with advice from the web.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64

How reproducible:
yum update or software update... either one

Steps to Reproduce:
1. just update to the new kernel
2. boot into the new kernel
3.

Actual results:
system freezes up, I will get six small screens flashing on and off then they stop. When trying to install KMODS or other tips to get the update to work just freezes the system completely and I have to kill power.

Expected results:
being able to update the software without the freezing up

Additional info: I am new to Linux

This was fixed by booting into runlevel 3 and running the nvidia driver installer.
All kmod & akmods were removed and all glibs were installed and updated.
Booted back into runlevel 3 and ran X... worked!
