Description of Problem:
After reinstalling a RH 5.2 system with RH 7.2 (with all current updates
included), the PS/2 mouse is not usable anymore.  Kudzu says the mouse is
missing.  When starting gpm and/or when starting X, the keyboard is locked and
the mouse can't be used either.  After killing gpm and/or X, the keyboard can be
used again.  However, Anaconda could use the mouse.  So, afterwards I installed
the kernel-BOOT package and booted this, and indeed, then gpm and X works fine
and Kudzu finds the mouse again!

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Both 2.4.7-10 and 2.4.9-31 have the same problem: the BOOT kernel works, normal
kernel does not work.

Configuration:
Intel MS440GX (Xeon) mainboard with PS/2 keyboard and mouse.  Other info on
request.

440GX chipset Intel boards all have a stupid bios bug (bad $PIRQ table).
You need to use the smp kernel to avoid this bug.

Checked, and using the SMP kernel works, so this is a viable workaround this
problem.
