Description Corey Welton 2010-10-04 16:21:57 UTC
Description of problem:
Despite clearing my browser cache and closing my browser (which was necessary to even get a new build installed), after installing, Firefox is giving me alerts that the server is continually trying to send popups windows.....?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install an older nightly and navigate around it. I'd been looking at group inventory stuff...
2. Shutdown server. Unpack and start new server
3. Attempt to connect to <hostname>:7080
4. Note that firefox attempts to used cached data and connect to dashboard (bug #1)
5. Clear firefox cache and restart browser. Once more, navigate to <hostname>:7080 and begin install.
6. Complete install and login.
7. Note the firefox warnings that pop up in your browser.

Actual results:

I got a whole slew of warnings of popups from JON, followed by 2 more every minute or so. See forthcoming screenshot

Expected results:
Clean install/login process. I am not sure how to fix this... and while this isn't something users will run into going from 2.4 -> 3.0, they will most likely see it from 3.0 -> future release.

screenshot

Screenshot of my firefox session going slightly bonkers despite clearing cache prior to install.

I suspect that this might be resolved if i clear my cache once again, but for a user to have to clear cache twice in order to install a new build borders on crazy talk.

Should read

1. Install an older nightly and navigate around it. I'd been looking at group
inventory stuff...
2. Shutdown server. Unpack and start new server
3. Attempt to connect to <hostname>:7080
4. Note that firefox attempts to used cached data and connect to dashboard (issue
#1)
5. Clear firefox cache and restart browser. Once more, navigate to
<hostname>:7080 and begin install.
6. Complete install and login.
7. Note the firefox warnings that pop up in your browser. (issue #2)

sigh. forget the whole auto-linked issue/bug stuff. read it plaintext.

Comment 4 Corey Welton 2010-10-04 16:30:24 UTC
even clearing browser cache does not resolve this. Makes me think there is something bad going on with dbupgrade caching connections or something....?

Comment 5 Corey Welton 2010-10-04 17:14:30 UTC
So, this occurs on a fresh install -- no upgrade related issues, apparently. Raising priority.

example of one of these popups

Attached a sample of one of these popups. Note that just browsing around for about 3-4 minutes causes upwards of 100 of these to show up. It starts to choke the browser, eventually.

Closing this bug - it no longer seems to occur.
