That's odd, and shouldn't be the case at all. Can you post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and dmesg output after a failed non-nomodeset boot? Created attachment 454005 [details]
log from boot without nomodeset
it also seizures with the nomodeset, but settles and I get the gnome logon screen.
/var/log/Xorg.0.log attached
don't know if it makes any difference, but my screen is 1680x1050 Please delete your xorg.conf and see if things improve. It looks like X has been explicitly configured to use the vesa driver, not nouveau. things work fine after deleting xorg.conf. This was a fresh install done with the TC1.1 netinst ISO, which didn't work unless I did the "with basic video driver" option. Maybe that put vesa in my xorg.conf... I'll test again when new installation media is available. Ok, I presume somehow the image you used had a broken kernel that required basic video driver, which does indeed write a vesa xorg.conf. I'll leave this set as needinfo until you can test with newer installation media, and if it still happens, I'll reassign it there. I re-tested with F14 TC6, and everything seems to work fine. The graphical install without the "basic video driver" works as expected. I'll close this now. |
