Description of problem:
Sometimes the touchpad goes completely nuts for no apparent reason.  That is, the cursor won't follow fingers movements, but will instead follow random directions.  Just tapping the touchpad will make the cursor jump from several dozens of pixels.  In addition, the touchpad will start to be sensitive at several millimeters from the surface.  Finally, the touchpad is completely unusable under these conditions.  A reboot seems necessary to deal with this issue.  Not sure what to look for in logs.

Forget it, it seems a hardware issue : it occurs even within the graphical BIOS !
