Description Victor Vengerov 2010-11-13 15:40:07 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; ru; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101027 Fedora/3.6.12-1.fc14 Firefox/3.6.12

When Magnifier desktop effects is enabled, magnifier switched on by pressing hot-key (Meta-=) and mouse moved, there are many horizontal and vertical lines and bars displayed on the screen, making magnifier almost unusable.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run "System settings".
2. Select "Desktop effects" icon in "Workspace Appearance and Behaviour" section.
3. Select "All Effects" tab
4. In "Accessibility" section, set checkbox against Magnifier effect, and clear checkboxes against "Looking glass" and "Zoom" effects.
5. Press Meta-=, possibly multiple time.
6. Move mouse around.

Actual Results:
Horizontal and vertical lines and bars appears on the screen, outside the magnifier area.

Expected Results:
Screen shouldn't be damaged when magnifier moved around.

This effect observed when OpenGL compositing is enabled. I've observed it at desktop with intel driver (Intel i5 661 CPU-integrated graphics) and at notebook with NVidia GeForce GT 230M, using nvidia proprietary driver. I've tried to change OpenGL settings (OpenGL mode, Texture Filter, direct rendering) at desktop with integrated graphics, without success.

When compositing type switched to XRender, magnifier works much better although notably slower, nevertheless some "shadows" displayed from time to time. Also, in XRender mode, there is no black frame around the magnifier area.

Magnifier works well before upgrade to Fedora 14.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 21:07:27 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
