Description Milan Broz 2010-11-24 20:53:44 UTC
Description of problem:

The upstream util-linux-ng has simple "lsblk" utility which is used to list block device attributes and display pseudo-tree dependence between devices.

Lsblk can be very useful when investigating more complex configurations
(like lvm over LUKS over partitions) or multipath.

It also allows to display simple attributes of block devices like topology info or selected io scheduler.

There is no similar tool which parses /sys/block info in user friendly way in distro yet.

An example output:

$ lsblk -t
NAME                    ALIGNMENT MIN-IO OPT-IO PHY-SEC LOG-SEC ROTA SCHED

This tool contributes to user experience value with RHEL and simplifies administration of storage on RHEL6 and can also help with various storage system diagnostics by providing visual representation of device dependences.

Please backport this utility into RHEL6. It requires only libblkid library (already there) so backporting is straightforward and almost risk free here.
