As you can see, I've currently found 3 possibly related ways to get it to crash. This is actually fun. :D

xchat-gnome is set to auto-connect to freenode and authenticate using a NickServ password.

It always crashes if the instructions are followed on my system; however, it used to work perfectly (for an hour or so, I just installed it) and only started crashing after I accidentally disconnected from freenode and tried to reconnect, if that makes sense.

Also, if I close the channel selection popup and try using "/join <channel>" absolutely nothing happens. Maybe that's relevant.

How to reproduce
-----
1. Start xchat-gnome.
2. Wait for it to auto-connect.
3. The channel selection popup will appear. Type a channel name and click Join Channel or press Enter.
4. xchat-gnome will crash.

Alternatively:
1. Start xchat-gnome.
2. Wait for it to auto-connect.
3. The channel selection popup will appear. Click Close.
4. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> the Networks 'tab' -> select Freenode -> click Edit button.
5. xchat-gnome will crash.

Or even:
1. Start xchat-gnome.
2. Wait for it to auto-connect.
3. The channel selection popup will appear. Click Close.
4. Right click the "freenode" network in the left pane.
5. xchat-gnome will crash.
