Description pleabargain 2011-01-15 16:49:36 UTC
Description of problem:
fspot opens all of my 'places' folders

I have checked system prefs but can't find any way to set the opening of places to file manager.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
[user@localhost ~]$ rpm -qa f-spot
f-spot-0.8.2-1.fc14.i686

How reproducible:
every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1.go to places
2.select folder e.g. 'music'
3.f-spot launches!

Actual results:
folder is not opened

Expected results:
folder manager opens

Additional info:
this started happening after the new f-spot was released

Please help! It's driving me nuts!

I can't reproduce the issue so far.

Some questions:
- When f-spot opens in your case, does it show the "Import" dialog automatically?

- Is the title of the f-spot window "F-Spot View"?

- What happens if you downgrade to 0.8.0? Can you still reproduce the issue? (Please re-login after you downgraded the package!)

You can download the package for your architecture (x86 or x86_64) here:
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=200844
The package can be downgraded with
sudo rpm -U f-spot-0.8.0-3.fc14.i686.rpm --oldpackage

Comment 2 pleabargain 2011-01-15 18:14:03 UTC
Yes, it opens import dialog. Is there a way to turn that off?

Comment 3 Christian Krause 2011-01-15 18:43:35 UTC
So I assume when nautilus tries to open these directories, they are treated either as mime tpye "x-content/image-picturecd" or "x-content/image-dcf":

$ grep f-spot-import /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop;brasero.desktop;gthumb-import.desktop;
x-content/image-dcf=f-spot-import.desktop;shotwell.desktop;gthumb-import.desktop;
$

Why this happens, I don't know. There are configuration options in nautilus (Edit -> Preferences -> Media) which control whether certain programs are started when a media is inserted. But just opening a "Places" directory should not count as "insert a media"...

Especially why it happens just since the latest update I can not explain. The announced MimeType key in f-spot-import.desktop has not changed between f-spot 0.8.0 and 0.8.2.

I will re-assign the bug to nautilus since it is the responsibility of nautilus when to start f-spot and when not.

I don't think the CL you gave is accurate.

[user@localhost renpy-6.11.2]$ x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop;brasero.desktop;gthumb-import.desktop;
bash: x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop: No such file or directory
bash: brasero.desktop: command not found...
bash: gthumb-import.desktop: command not found...
[user@localhost renpy-6.11.2]$  grep f-spot-import /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop;brasero.desktop;gthumb-import.desktop;x-content/image-dcf=f-spot-import.desktop;shotwell.desktop;gthumb-import.desktop;
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache:x-content/image-dcf=f-spot-import.desktop;shotwell.desktop;
/usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache:x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop;brasero.desktop;
grep: x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop: No such file or directory
bash: brasero.desktop: command not found...
bash: gthumb-import.desktop: command not found...
bash: x-content/image-dcf=f-spot-import.desktop: No such file or directory
bash: shotwell.desktop: command not found...
bash: gthumb-import.desktop: command not found...

--------------
I checked the (Edit -> Preferences -> Media) settings and there is nothing in there about opening _folders_ or place folders... as that when fspot takes over, with places folders.

In nautilus itself folders open as they should. Only with places does fspot intervene.

Very strange, very frustrating. :(

Sorry, there was a misunderstanding, the command line to execute was:

grep f-spot-import /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache

No doubt about it the new f-spot wants to 'import' any folder found in 'places' toolbar.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest f-spot and the same 'import' behavior came back.

I tried
sudo yum install f-spot-0.8.0-3.fc14.i686.rpm

but it came back as unavailable.

using latest f-spot

[user@localhost ~]$ grep f-spot-import /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache
x-content/image-dcf=f-spot-import.desktop;shotwell.desktop;
x-content/image-picturecd=f-spot-import.desktop;brasero.desktop;

You have to download the file from the mentioned URL first and then call the command above in the same directory where you have saved the file.

Comment 10 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 22:20:29 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
