Description Frederic Hornain 2011-01-21 10:32:52 UTC
Description of problem:

In the " Red Hat Directory Server 8.2.3 Installation Guide Edition 8.2.2", it is written in the paragraph 2.1.2 that :

Directory Server 8.2 is supported on the following platforms:
    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 i386 (32-bit)
    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 x86_64 (64-bit)
    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 i386 (32-bit)
    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 x86_64 (64-bit)
    * Solaris 9 SPARC (64-bit)

However in the paragraph 2.3 it is written :

Red Hat Enterprise Linux Operating System Requirements
Directory Server is supported on two versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux:

    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 on x86 and x86_64 platforms
    * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 on x86 and x86_64 platforms

So are RHEL 32-bits platforms and Solaris 9 SPARC (64-bit) still supported ?

Thanks for your time and you help.

Best Regards
Frederic ;)

Hi, Frederic.

It took me a long time to answer your question -- sorry!

Yes, RHDS 8.2 is supported on RHEL 4 and 5 32-bit versions. x86 is the 32-bit platform -- which is usually i386 but can also be i686 (I think). x86 covers all the options, and I should make that more consistent in the docs.

Solaris 9 is supported for RHDS 8.2, as well, but you should contact Oracle/Sun for whatever the latest patches are. We try to limit putting too much information about other vendor's products in the documentation just because we aren't privy to when that information changes. We don't want to put inaccurate information in our docs, if we can help it.

Thanks!

Oh, the documentation should be updated to say only x86 in about an hour.
