Description Phil Cassaro 2011-01-21 15:55:43 UTC
Description of problem: when testing machines with 'bkr machine-test', RHEL5 and RHEL6 installs are scheduled for the system. The /distribution/inventory task is run for the RHEL5 install, but not RHEL6. On Power7 ppc64 systems, RHEL5 is run in Power6 compatibilty mode. When the /distribution/inventory task is run on these systems, smolt reports CPU info incorrectly. Specifically Power7 cpu's are reported and recorded in beaker as Power6. If machine-test could run /distribution/inventory for RHEL6 as well, the correct data would be recorded in beaker.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible: always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run 'bkr machine-test' on power7 system
2.
3.

Actual results: /distribution/inventory task is run for the RHEL5 install, but not RHEL6. Inventory data is collected from the system when it has RHEL 5 installed, and this results with inaccurate data being recorded in Keys/Values

Expected results: If /distribution/inventory could be scheduled to run on the RHEL6 installs, then data recorded in beaker would be more reliable

agreed. inventory script will need to be re-written to work with newer releases.

Comment 2 Dan Callaghan 2011-02-02 01:19:37 UTC
Will we need to continue supporting RHEL5 *and* RHEL6 for the inventory script, or will it be enough to just port the whole thing to RHEL6? Maybe we can take the opportunity to switch to the latest packaged smolt as well, instead of including our own hacked version in /distribution/inventory.

Comment 3 Dan Callaghan 2011-02-02 01:21:03 UTC
Oh noes, I just realised: it will still have to run on RHEL5 for ia64 :-(

Comment 4 Bill Peck 2011-03-14 19:52:57 UTC
Adding Derich to make sure we cover s390 properly
