I suspect this has to do with the driver for the WIFI card but not sure, the system is a brand new second generation i7 HP laptop model XN093AV

Seems this is not in the kernel or driver area, I was able to get the network connected bypassing the network manager. 

Just close this if anything there is a problem in the network manager.
