gdm with no fonts none

Description Matt Kinni 2011-02-03 09:23:35 UTC
Created attachment 476731 [details]
gdm with no fonts

Description of problem:

If you install Fedora from minimal and then go to groupinstall the XFCE or GNOME desktop environments, there are no font packages listed as dependencies.

This results in a horribly broken experience when gdm first starts, as seen in my attached screenshot. If the dejavu-sans-fonts package was listed as a dependency, everything would work fine.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
I'm not sure what version number

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install fedora minimal
2. yum groupinstall 'XFCE' or 'GNOME Desktop Environment'
3. all characters are boxes because no fonts are installed

Actual results:
no characters display

Expected results:
dejavu fonts are installed

This is intentional; much like you need to install base-x for any particular local desktop, you also need to install the fonts group.
