gthumb rename, photos disappear from gthumb but not from directory?!

How reproducible:
every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1.select files
2.F2
3.rename files
4. files disappear from gthumb thumb preview BUT files are in nautilus view

I checked the  /var/log/messages for anything mentioning gthumb and I found zero... which I found surprising as I've used gthumb a lot today.

You've renamed the files without any extension (like *.jpg).

If you want gThumb to recognize extensionless files, try setting Edit > Preferences > Browser > Determine image type from content (slower).

need to add file extension...
