Description George R. Goffe 2011-02-05 09:03:00 UTC
Description of problem:

When I boot my system into single user mode, I get a shell that does NOT echo the commands that I enter. All I see are the results. Type "ls -al", I can see the output but not the characters.

Possibly related: vga=31b specified on grub.conf kernel line NOT being accepted when letting the grub prompt timeout and proceed to boot.

Possibly related: after invitation to login, type in userid, asynchronous messages appear, type in password. Password is VISIBLE.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Unknown other than FC14 at latest updates level from RH repos.

How reproducible:

Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot system and edit the kernel line and add "s"
2. continue the boot
3. use "esc" key to bypass(?) the boot splash screen

Actual results:

As described.

Expected results:

Commands/letters echoed to the screen as they are typed.

Are you sure you are in single user mode? I can't reproduce it.

Comment 2 George R. Goffe 2011-02-10 02:12:07 UTC
Roman,

I am certain I'm in single user mode. I also see similar behavior from tty1 when I login. I have inittab set to 3 NOT 5.

I can get you a list of what packages are on the system if that would help you. What other info would you find helpful? lspci output? I'm a little ahead of the bleeding edge with this system. ktorrent is at rc1 and there's a x11 driver that's ahead of the pack so to speak.

Regards and THANKS for your response.

Roman?

I had thought that you had fixed the problem since it does appear to be fixed now.

Thanks,

George...
