Description Corey Marthaler 2011-02-08 21:04:27 UTC
Description of problem:
After making lvm aware of swap labels (bug 488354), it would be nice if the reverse was also implemented. If you have a valid LVM volume with data on it, and you deactivate it, and mkswap it, you lose that data. It would be nice if mkswap could detect valid LVM labels and verify that the operation to be preformed is what's really desired.

It's unusual request, all our mkfs-like utils making a new FS without any care about the current content on the device. A small exception is mkfs.xfs where is necessary -f (force) to overwrite an old FS.

The requested change will also break backward compatibility. Sorry, closing.
