Doc Text:
When working with very large images (larger than 2TB) created with very small cluster sizes (for example, 512bytes), block I/O errors can occur due to timeouts in qemu. To prevent this problem from occurring, use the default cluster size of 64KiB or larger.

Description Shirley Zhou 2011-02-11 03:06:31 UTC
Description of problem:
Install guest on qcow2 file (3TB size, 512 cluster size), guest become pause because of "Unknown error 1535106048" when installing.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
qemu-kvm-0.12.1.2-2.144.el6.x86_64

How reproducible:
2/2

Steps to Reproduce:
1.create big qcow2 image (3T) with small cluster size(512)
# qemu-img create -f qcow2 /dev/vgtest/big 3T -o cluster_size=512
Formatting '/dev/vgtest/big', fmt=qcow2 size=3298534883328 encryption=off cluster_size=512
2.install RHEL6.1 guest on new create big image
/usr/libexec/qemu-kvm -enable-kvm -m 4G -smp 2,sockets=2,cores=1,threads=1 -name qcow2 -uuid bb340905-50b0-de70-921b-5c360a945678 -monitor stdio -rtc base=localtime -boot nc -drive file=/dev/vgtest/big,if=none,id=drive-ide0-0-0,format=qcow2,cache=none,werror=stop,rerror=stop -device virtio-blk-pci,drive=drive-ide0-0-0,id=ide0-0-0 -netdev tap,id=hostnet0 -device virtio-net-pci,netdev=hostnet0,id=net0,mac=52:54:00:04:ad:a1,bus=pci.0,addr=0x7 -chardev pty,id=serial0 -device isa-serial,chardev=serial0 -usb -device usb-tablet,id=input0 -device virtio-balloon-pci,id=balloon0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x8 -vga qxl -spice port=5910,disable-ticketing

Actual results:
loop of "block I/O error in device 'drive-ide0-0-0': Unknown error 1535106048 (1535106048)" error happens during installing, and guest become paused, please see attached screen shot when guest become paused.

Expected results:

Comment 10 Miroslav Rezanina 2013-02-25 06:54:52 UTC
When using small clusters, writing into image takes too long and cause timeout in guest's block driver. Using bigger sectors prevent this errors.
