Description Ion Badulescu 2011-02-13 20:07:51 UTC
Description of problem:
On an AMD Athlon64 host running Fedora 14 with the kernel-PAE-2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686 kernel, starting any KVM-based VM results in a cpu spin after the console prints "Booting from Hard Disk".

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-PAE-2.6.35.11-83 or kernel-PAE-2.6.35.10-74

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot into one of the above kernels
2. Try to start a KVM-based VM
3.

Actual results:
The VM boot process stops after the BIOS prints the messages "Booting from Hard Disk". qemu-kvm shows up in top as spinning at 100% cpu.

Expected results:
Getting the guest up and running.

Additional info:
This kernel bugzilla entry tracks this very bug, and I can confirm that the patch f87f928882d080eaec8b0d76aecff003d664697d applies cleanly to the kernel-2.6.35.11-83 source rpm and fixes the problem:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25262

Please include this patch in a future kernel rpm release. For now I'm forced to use my customized kernels which include this patch.

Patch will be in 2.6.35.11-85
