Did you verify your download before attempting to install?

Yes I did. It passed the test.

I have now downloaded the full DVD install and it worked fine

This has got to be a transient i/o error specific to your setup somehow, though.  We would be getting a lot more reports otherwise.  I suppose you could always look at /usr/share/anaconda/lang-names in a terminal or text editor to see if you get i/o errors that way too.
