Further information: In the situation above, I was using GNOME Shell in a dual head configuration. The Favourites bar was on the primary (laptop) monitor. Yesterday, I ran the live CD again on the laptop which was now uncoupled from the dual-head system. The icons now resized as I added more and more to the Favourites bar and, thus, I no longer had the problem of them spilling off the bottom of the screen. I do not know why I had the problem with one configuration but not the other. Perhaps it is a bug with the dual-monitor configuration. The only concern with them shrinking to fit is that the names of the applications become truncated. As a usability suggestion, perhaps the full name should appear or they should magnify as you hover the mouse over them, etc. 2.91.90 removes the names from the dash items so there's a lot more space to fit more - you won't overflow until you get a completely ridiculous number. |
