File: backtrace
> How to reproduce
> -----
> 1.delete a message
Uh, come on! You can't be serious about those steps.
Deleting messages certainly works with Claws Mail most of the time. It won't be sufficient as a test-case for this crash. Just if it's via IMAP, with the IMAP or network connection failing or being busy processing a previous IMAP operation, something bad can happen.
> Uh, come on! You can't be serious about those steps. While I understand that my description sounds unhelpful, please note the following: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=631090 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=667320 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=620845 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=642156 > Deleting messages certainly works with Claws Mail most of the time. Sure, *most of the time*. Unfortunately sometimes it doesn't and I get that kind of crash. > with the IMAP or network connection failing or being busy processing > a previous IMAP operation, something bad can happen I'm no programmer, but I find it hard to believe that exception can't be handled gracefully. If it's indeed impossibile, just say so and I'll stop submitting backtrace files. Regards. Alessandro Don't stop submitting bug reports, ... but *please* try to give some details about your environment and usage patterns when filling in the fields in the ABRT tool. If something is not reproducible, please do mention that. Backtraces aren't always enough. They contain enough details to show where the program crashed and why, but for example, they don't tell under which circumstances the program ended up processing bad/invalid data. An issue may be a side-effect or reproducible only with a specific type of IMAP server software. > I'm no programmer, but I find it hard to believe that exception > can't be handled gracefully. Nobody has claimed that. Still, somebody needs to take the time and understand what exactly is going wrong, how to fix it, and then spend time on fixing the code - or rewriting it even. Notice the upstream link in bug 631090. I'm neither the packager nor a Claws Mail developer and my knowledge of Sylpheed is of limited use in what had started as Sylpheed-claws. But I'm triaging some of the issues (also http://bugz.fedoraproject.org/claws-mail ) during ongoing evaluation of Claws Mail as a MUA for daily use. I use it a lot, also with IMAP, and I cannot get it to crash when deleting a message. I'm aware of other issues, though. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 631090 *** > *please* try to give some details
The whole point of my previous comment was that this is not the first time I file a bug for this issue and, as far as I can tell, the circumstances are always the same.
In other words, I don't know what other details to provide besides those already posted in my previous bug reports; I'm open to suggestions, though.
Alessandro
When you file a report with the ABRT tool, you would enter the details even if they may be the same as in your previous bug reports. At least mention - IMAP - Google Mail - deleting a message in a folder and how - whether 'Thread View' is enabled for the folder - whether you used a special keyboard shortcut or the mouse - whether it is 100% reproducible or just happended once There may be a pattern. |
