Description Christoph Wickert 2011-02-17 22:06:27 UTC
Description of problem:
Instead of intelligent placement for larger windows metacity in F15 alpha just places them besides existing windows which makes them appear mostly off screen.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
metacity-2.30.3-5.fc15

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot F15 alpha
2. open an application with a small window, say gnome-terminal. It will be centered
3. open a application with a large window, say system-

Actual results:
The bigger window is placed below (orientation, not layer) the small window and it mostly outside

Expected results:
metacity should have the same behavior as in previous versions. The bigger window should be in front of the smaller window.

Absolutely no change in Metacity that I'm aware of. Check by running 'xdpyinfo | grep dimensions' that your screen configuration is as you think it is and you don't have a large screen with only a small portion visible.

(Note that if the app you are starting in 3. changes size immediately after mapping itself onto the screen, that can also cause this problem.)

Comment 2 Christoph Wickert 2011-03-04 22:16:22 UTC
xdpyinfo reports 1024x768 as expected, and I can still reproduce the problem. But I guess this is a problem of control-center, it's only the bar at the top when it starts and then resizes when loading the plugins.
