Description Jonathan 2011-02-21 22:14:38 UTC
Description of problem:
When trying to attach a file in yahoo mail, firefox fails. If you are really quick in selecting the file, it often works. If you are slow however, first the main window greys out while you are browsing in the "open file dialogue", then the dialogue just disappears without you dismissing it. Seems like some sort of timeout. The attach file dialogue can never be brought up again. You have to reload the page.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
firefox.x86_64 3.6.13-1.fc14

How reproducible:
always, to me

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open yahoo mail (the new beta now, but I've had this problem for more than six months)
2.compose message, open attach file dialogue
3.be slow, 7 seconds to mother window grays out for me, 12 til the dialogue disappears by itself.

Actual results:
no files if you are slower than 12 seconds in choosing files to attach.

Expected results:
more than 12 seconds to chose files to attach.

Additional info:
this seems to be a fedora / linux bug or yahoo bug, not sure who to blame really. This problem is not seen by colleagues using windows / firefox combination. I see the same problem in fedora / opera. All add-ons where disabled when I tried to fix it in firefox.

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Are you able to reproduce this issue with firefox running in the safe mode (firefox --safe-mode)? Are you able to reproduce this with the upstream binary from http://www.mozilla.com/ (just unpack the tarball anywhere and run ./firefox)?

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, identical behavior.

>>Are you able to reproduce this with the upstream binary

./firefox)?

Don't know. I did what you instructed me to and got the identical behaviour. However, though I did download firefox 3.6.14, when I clicked help>about it shows version 3.6.13 so I am not sure that the downloaded version was really the one running. It also had my add-ons. I did start it the way you instructed inside the unpacked library.

My bad.
I tried to start them in parallel with my normal firefox still running.
When I shut it down first, I got a different behaviour. Both your suggestions worked and did not have the problem.

Glad to hear it.

Closing as NOTABUG (there must some issue with some of your extensions, I guess, which we don't provide and thus not support)
