Description Junco 2011-02-24 08:42:07 UTC
Description of problem:
Try to boot RHEL6 x64 using PXEboot kernel(vmlinuz) in WDSLinux environment, process will hang after loaded vmlinuz, and will not load initrd.img.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL 6.0 x64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Setup WDSLinux environment in windows 2008 sp2 eng, to support networking installation for both windows and linux system, follow steps description in http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.php/WDSLINUX
2. Copy vmlinuz and initrd.img from RHEL6 x64 installation CD /images/pxeboot to WDSLinux server
3. Create a RHEL6x64_installation boot entry in PXELINUX configuration file, set kernel to vmlinuz and append initrd.img just copied
4. Using a client PC boot from WDSLinux, in boot menu or command line, select RHEL6x64_installation

Actual results:
In client PC screen, will show vmlinuz load progress, and the system will hang after loading finished, and will not show initrd.img load information.

Expected results:
The initrd.img will be load after vmlinuz loaded, then boot to RHEL6 x64 installation interface.

Additional info:
  Analyze
Change WDSLinux server and client PC, same error.
Change PXELinux others version, same error.
Change to others vendor's Linux distribution, no error.
Change to RHEL6 x86, no error.
Change to RHEL5.5/4.x x64, no error.
  Workaround
Setup another tftp server using tftp32, copy RHEL6 x64 PXE boot file(vmlinuz in enough) to that server. Point to new tftp server in PXELinux configuration file, client PC will boot to RHEL6 x64 installation without error.

This issue is extremely old. If there is still a customer affected on the latest version of RHEL6, please reopen and provide specifics.
