Comment 1 bouloumag 2011-02-25 12:35:37 UTC
Description of problem:

wget doesn't handle IDN domains right.
Example :

wget http://مثال.آزمایشی/

does not works.

When I manually translate the IDN domain name to the "xn--" format,
it works.

Comment 2 bouloumag 2011-02-28 18:04:16 UTC
According to [1], there is a bug in iri.c causing international domain names not to be IDN encoded if the current locale is a UTF-8 one.

Hi,

Can you please include "Actual results" and "Expected results" for your issue?
Thanks!

Comment 4 Tomáš Hozza 2012-10-10 08:40:03 UTC
The problem is missing build requirement "libidn-devel". Therefore wget is compiled without GNU libidn library and doesn't support IDN domains.

Without libidn (Wget 1.13.4 on Fedora 17):

# wget http://중고차.com/
--2012-10-10 10:31:52-- http://%EC%A4%91%EA%B3%A0%EC%B0%A8.com/
Resolving 중고차.com... failed: Name or service not known.
wget: unable to resolve host address `중고차.com'

With libidn (Wget 1.13.4 on Fedora 17):

# wget http://중고차.com/
--2012-10-10 10:37:44-- http://xn--299ap84c39b.com/
Resolving 중고차.com (xn--299ap84c39b.com)... 58.76.184.4
Connecting to 중고차.com (xn--299ap84c39b.com)|58.76.184.4|:80... connected.
