/var/log/messages after login attempt

Description of problem:
I freshly installed F15 and updated to the latest packages during installation. When gdm finally appears, I select a user and enter the corresponding password. The screen will now show the shell background (blue stripes), but no menu appears. It will hang like that for quite some time. At some point the screen begins to flash between the blue background and a black screen with the menu on top, having the date centered and my username to the right.

I didn't know very well what component to select, so I set it to gnome-shell for now.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-2.91.90-2.fc15.i686

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot a freshly installed F15 (alpha)
2. Attempt to login with a valid username and password

Actual results:
The login hangs with the blue striped background. After a couple of minutes that starts flashing between that blue screen and the black screen as described above.

Expected results:
I get logged in properly.

Additional info:
The black screen that starts to flash seems to be the screensaver kicking in. If I hit any key, I am asked for my password to unlock the screen. After I entered this, I can continue to stare at the blue-striped background with nothing happening at all.

I got at this point because I wanted to run the tests for the Radeon test day on this laptop. That will have to wait until the problem is fixed. If found bug 677842 which reports a blocking bug for newer radeon cards. I read through it, but I am not sure it's the same bug. Bug 677842 reports a mutter crash, but I that doesn't seem to be my case. abrt-cli -l only lists a crash in /usr/bin/gsettings-data-convert, which I think is unrelated.

For reference, my hardware is
http://www.smolts.org/client/show/pub_b6251cea-5374-49a0-8b8c-7c7dd75f6c73

I will also add /var/log/messages and /var/log/Xorg.0.log

When I start from runlevel 3 and use startx to go to graphical mode, Gnome starts in fallback mode and I get a message that Gnome shell can't be started, likely because my hardware doesn't support it.

Perhaps. But I can't reproduce this anymore.

I installed a couple of xorg updates a few days ago, and since then I can login fine.

For me this bug can be closed. Thank you for your fine work.
