Description David Le Sage 2011-03-03 11:12:06 UTC
Description of problem:
Empathy now launches without crashing but it cannot connect to IRC rooms. It seemed to be attempting to connect without ever succeeding or timing out.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Log into GNOME Shell.
2. Launch Empathy.
3. It does not automatically connect to configured IRC server.
4. Tried to select "Load Favourite Rooms" from the menu. It did not respond to this, either.

Actual results:
Does not connect to IRC server and load favourite rooms.

Expected results:
Favourite rooms should be loaded automatically.

Additional info:
It seemed that the "Find people nearby" functionality was also trying to connect unsuccessfully. I turned this feature off but I still could not connect to IRC.

Comment 1 David Le Sage 2011-03-03 23:36:53 UTC
Left out version number which is:

empathy-2.91.90-1.fc15.x86_64

Comment 2 Matthias Runge 2011-03-21 09:47:19 UTC
I've noticed, I can not connect to IRC nets requiring a password. Is it the same for you?

Comment 3 Juan Saavedra 2011-05-07 19:57:14 UTC
Connecting to freenode with password succeeded after today's update.

Comment 4 Matthias Runge 2011-05-09 07:36:35 UTC
OK, connecting to freenode using password works now, connecting e.g. to IRCNet without password seems not possible.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 14:56:50 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
