Description tz 2011-03-06 03:56:12 UTC
Description of problem:
Places shows many internal (nonremovable) and external (SD card) disks. Opening should bring up file manager, but brings up vlc.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.I don't know how to trigger, maybe once create a Music and/or video directory
2. close, then open using places off the main menu
3.

Actual results:
VLC opens for who knows what
No apparent way to reset or change the behavior.

Expected results:
File manager opens since there are lots of different things.
Some obvious setting could select "treat as (AV) media v.s. treat as disk)

You can change the action associated with media-types in Edit -> Preferences -> Media tab of nautilus.

If this doesn't work, you could try the following (untested): in Nautilus find the parent folder of the folder/device you are having trouble with and right click on your device/folder and select Open With from the context menu. Find File Manager in the list ensuring the checkbox down the bottom is ticked and select Open. Does this help when subsequently opening the folder from Places?

Comment 2 tz 2011-03-07 14:02:47 UTC
I already checked the nautilus default. It took a bit to find that I needed to change Places->computer and change all those from VLC (I didn't do anything that should have set this) to filemanager. The hover on the places menu said mount, but would open with VLC afterward.

Is there any way I can prevent this, or do a reset, or at least figure out how it happened?

I am having the exact same problem as tz. If I attempt to open any folder or disc using the places menu, it opens vlc. I am not happy ;^(

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-16 16:05:30 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '14' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 14 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
