It should have been pasted further below, like this: Additional info: [...] This is although system environment variables for proxy are set in /etc/profile.d (I haven't analyzed why they aren't used). However many GNOME users will just rely on the GNOME settings, and not set proxy environment variables in the profile. I should add that gnome-applets should also depend on libproxy-mozjs and/or libproxy-webkit in order to make automatic proxy configuration available for gweather-applet-2. Filed bug 683033 against libproxy - this seems to be a generic problem that the libproxy maintainers need to handle. This message is a notice that Fedora 14 is now at end of life. Fedora has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 14. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. Description of problem: gweather-applet-2 doesn't honor GNOME proxy settings if libproxy-gnome is not installed. This dependency is totally obscure. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-applets-2.32.0-3.fc14.x86_64 How reproducible: always Steps to Reproduce: 1. configure http proxy and no_proxy ("ignore hosts") in GNOME settings 2. run GNOME weather applet 3. Configure any location Actual results: gweather-applet-2 just displays "--" and no details. No weather information is fetched. strace shows that the proxy isn't used. Using a debugger, I found out that the "gnome" extension module of libproxy was required but not found. However many GNOME users will just rely on the GNOME settings. Expected results: Fetches weather information Additional info: If a proxy and "ignored hosts" (no_proxy) is configured in GNOME and libproxy-gnome is not installed, gweather-applet-2 will not display anything reasonable. So my guess is (not tested) that similar problems will also affect other programs using libsoup.
