Description David Le Sage 2011-03-07 22:30:09 UTC
Description of problem:
If I search for a file in the Activities Overlay, I cannot bring up a right-click menu. This would be handy if I wanted to open it with a specific application. In fact, many of the context menu functions found if you were to click on the same file in Nautilus should probably be available in the Overlay.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-2.91.90-2.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go into the Activities Overlay.
2. In the search field, type the name of, say, a text file that you know exists somewhere in your home directory.
3. The file appears under the "Recent Items" heading.
4. Right-click on the file, as you want to open it in a specific text editor.

Actual results:
No right-click context menu functionality available. Hence, there is no way to choose to open the file you have just found using a specific application

Expected results:
A context menu with applicable items should appear. You should be able to choose to open the file in the application of your choice.

I'm running into this problem a lot too. A lot of the meta-functionality that's available in GNOME 2 (and most other OS') on contextual right-click menus is either missing or confusingly hidden on GNOME 3. Is there no simply way to turn back on the right-click context menus? I guess there may be people who don't use this functionality and they could have an option to run it off but my guess is most people actually need and use many of those features.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:35:34 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
