Description gombang102 2011-03-11 05:21:53 UTC
Created attachment 483636 [details]
Relevant part from /var/log/messages

Description of problem:

TOR service fails to start, automatically or manually. When started manually using 'service tor start' command, the system reports:" Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details."

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): tor-0.2.1.29

How reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enable TOR service (e.g. 'chkconfig tor on')
2. Start TOR
3. systemd fails to start TOR

Actual results:
TOR fails to start.

Expected results:

TOR starts.

Additional info:

After looking at /lib/systemd/system/tor.service file, I found that it refers to /etc/sysconfig/tor file, which doesn't exist. Perhaps this is the cause?

After thinking about it I found an easy workaround. Just create the (empty) file:

$ touch /etc/sysconfig/tor

Still waiting for this to be fixed though.

Comment 2 Michael Hampton 2011-04-21 06:06:01 UTC
Confirmed, systemd refuses to start tor if /etc/sysconfig/tor doesn't exist. And the file is not created by any of the tor packages.

This also occurs on x86_64 (and presumably all platforms).

Comment 5 Matt Kinni 2011-06-23 16:07:34 UTC
Tor definitely still doesn't start, with version tor-0.2.1.30-1501.

I tried touching the sysconfig file and even commenting it out of the systemd service file, but I still can't get the service to start with systemd.

Also, it starts perfectly fine copy and pasting the execstart command from the tor.service file so I don't know why it won't work normally.
