Not sure why this is a ras-utils bug? Can someone elaborate on why a package that is NOT even installable on ppc is causing errors? P. lsvpd seems more likely ... P. ------- Comment From arunabal.com 2011-04-05 01:48 EDT------- [root@ltc-test-l4e-rhel ~]# which vpdupdate /usr/sbin/vpdupdate [root@ltc-test-l4e-rhel ~]# rpm -qf /usr/sbin/vpdupdate lsvpd-1.6.10-0.ppc The errors are seen for the application on lsvpd and vpupdate, which are part of IBM's RAS testing hence have marked the Component field in the Bug as RAS. Hope this answers your question. Thanks Divya (In reply to comment #6) > ------- Comment From arunabal.com 2011-04-05 01:48 EDT------- > [root@ltc-test-l4e-rhel ~]# which vpdupdate > /usr/sbin/vpdupdate > [root@ltc-test-l4e-rhel ~]# rpm -qf /usr/sbin/vpdupdate > lsvpd-1.6.10-0.ppc > The errors are seen for the application on lsvpd and vpupdate, which are part > of IBM's RAS testing hence have marked the Component field in the Bug as RAS. > Hope this answers your question. > These are NOT *ras-utils* bugs, so please don't file against them. IMO these may be lsvpd or kernel bugs. P. > Thanks > Divya ------- Comment From suzuki.com 2011-04-11 08:08 EDT------- There are two issues/parts to this error message: 1) Missing pci.ids / usb.ids files which causes the message below : <11>Mar 3 13:30:43 lsvpd[2780]: pci.ids file not found, continuing but there will be a lot of missing information <11>Mar 3 13:30:43 lsvpd[2780]: usb.ids file not found, continuing but there will be a lot of missing information Those files are provided by hwdata package on RHEL. Those files are used by the vpdupdate to lookup the actual Vendor/Device Id of the device. We could add hwdata as a "Requires" for the lsvpd rpm so, the package gets installed as a dependency. Or we could just ignore the warning, just that additional information will be missing. 2) vpdupdate failing to find the Major/Minor code : <12>Mar 3 13:30:43 vpdupdate[2780]: vpdupdate: Failed retrieving Major/Minor code for device: /sys/devices/vio/30000003/host0 The messages appear for the SCSI host/target device entries. The vpdupdate code tries to collect additional information about the SCSI devices, which it shouldn't do for host/target entries. Ideally, it should exclude all such host/target entries. I will create a patch for this. Thanks Suzuki Created attachment 492109 [details]
Patch to fix the bogus entries in lsvpd
------- Comment on attachment From suzuki.com 2011-04-14 09:38 EDT-------
This patch fixes the bogus entries in the lsvpd. This is due to the changed layout in the sysfs.
------- Comment From lnx1138.ibm.com 2011-04-15 08:16 EDT------- *** Bug 71280 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** ------- Comment From Subrata Modak subrata.ibm.com 2011-04-18 06:00 EDT------- Redhat, Can you please pickup this Patch ? Regards-- Subrata This is too late for RHEL 6.1 but will be added to the list for review for 6.2 ------- Comment From Subrata Modak subrata.ibm.com 2011-04-21 03:16 EDT------- (In reply to comment #33) > This is too late for RHEL 6.1 but will be added to the list for review for 6.2 Should be fine with us. But kindly consider the inclusion in your Partner 6.2-Alpha it self. Are you going to include the PATCH in Beta/SS release ? Let us know your thoughts. Regards-- Subrata ------- Comment From Subrata Modak subrata.ibm.com 2011-10-10 05:24 EDT------- (In reply to comment #38) > Hello RH, > This occurs in Alpha. Are you going to include the PATCH in Beta/SS release ? > Let us know your thoughts. Hello RH, Can you please confirm whether you are going to include the Fix in next SS release. This was open from 6.1 onwards and the fix has already been provided to you. However we do not see the fix included in Beta1 also. Kindly take appropriate action. Regards-- Subrata Hello, This is requested for RHEL 6.3. This is also requested for FAST track so it may be released before RHEL 6.3 is released. Thank You Joe Kachuck ------- Comment From iranna.ankad.com 2012-04-30 08:15 EDT------- (In reply to comment #41) > Since this is in RH cvs tree, moving to Accepted state There are 2 issues related to this bug . On RHEL6.3-Alpha1 pls find my observation 1. Missing pci.ids / usb.ids - not solved , hwdata package on RHEL isnt added as required for the lsvpd package . Should these messages be ignored or will be solved ? 2. vpdupdate failing to find the Major/Minor code - SOLVED Thanks Divya ------- Comment From suzukikp.com 2012-05-07 10:59 EDT------- (In reply to comment #43) > (In reply to comment #41) > > Since this is in RH cvs tree, moving to Accepted state > There are 2 issues related to this bug . On RHEL6.3-Alpha1 pls find my > observation > 1. Missing pci.ids / usb.ids - not solved , hwdata package on RHEL isnt > added as required for the lsvpd package . Should these messages be ignored > or will be solved ? It would be good to have the dependency added as it will help the 'vpdupdate' looking up the PCI vendor/device codes to actual Manufacturer/Device Names.
