Description Jonathan Paulett 2011-03-21 07:25:14 UTC
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0

When printing any black element using the hpcups driver (version 3.11.1) installed by default, the printer outputs the element as a shade of medium-gray.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Print any black element from a HP Deskjet F4400 using the hpcups driver
2.
3.
Actual Results:
The element is gray instead of black.

Manually switching the printer to use the hpijs driver apparently resolves the problem.

Have you used the hpcups driver ever before (F4400 has been supported since 3.9.12) ?

Comment 4 Jonathan Paulett 2011-03-21 09:41:12 UTC
Yeah, my F14 partition is using hpcups 3.10.9, and produces correct output.

Comment 5 Jiri Popelka 2011-03-21 09:48:41 UTC
Thanks, can you try also 3.11.3 ?

Comment 6 Jonathan Paulett 2011-03-21 11:01:31 UTC
3.11.3 produces the same results as 3.11.1 - gray with hpcups, black with hpijs.

Comment 7 Andrew Hutchings 2011-05-10 09:00:50 UTC
Same problem on HP Photosmart 2575 and HP Photosmart C310 and the same workaround.

Comment 8 Jiri Popelka 2011-05-10 13:09:32 UTC
Jonathan,
can you update hplip on your F14 partition from 3.10.9 to 3.11.3a
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=236950
a test it to make sure that this problem is in hplip-3.11.x

You can always downgrade back to 3.10.9 with
yum downgrade 'hplip*' hpijs libsane-hpaio

Andrew,
what does 'rpm -q hplip' command say ?

Comment 9 Jiri Popelka 2011-05-10 13:13:30 UTC
Jonathan,
hplip-3.11.3a-1.fc14 is in testing, so you can also update with
'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing hplip'

Comment 10 Jonathan Paulett 2011-05-11 06:56:26 UTC
Unfortunately, I've already upgraded that partition to F15, so I can't try that. Sorry!

Comment 11 Jiri Popelka 2011-05-12 16:22:09 UTC
What about fresh hplip-3.11.5 ?

Comment 12 Jonathan Paulett 2011-05-12 23:30:50 UTC
3.11.5 looks like it has it fixed. Many thanks.
