Description Christoph Wickert 2011-03-27 10:25:34 UTC
Description of problem:
Snapping windows are a nice feature. Simply drag a window to the left or right border to automatically have it resized to fill half of the secreen and tile two windows vertically. Unfortunately this does not work in dual screen setups.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-shell-2.91.91-2.fc15.i686

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Attach a second display to your computer. By default it will be attached right of the first one.
2. Drag a window to the right border of the first display.

Actual results:
Window will be moved to the second screen.

Expected results:
As soon as the right border of the window hits the border of the display, snapping should be offered, this means the transparent blue area should indicate where the window would be if you stop dragging now and it was snapped to the right display border.

The window should only be moved to the second display if you drag it a little further so that it's right border *passes* the display's right border. Having one window snapped to the left side of the first display and the other window to either the left or right side of the second display doesn't make sense because it leaves you with two desktops that are both covered half. Two windows tiled vertically on one display and having another desktop available for other stuff makes much more sense, therefor snapping should be preferred over moving. Adding a little resistence while moving something over the display border might makes sense here.

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2012-08-07 17:36:56 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 15 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 15. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. At this time, all open bugs with a Fedora 'version'
of '15' have been closed as WONTFIX.

(Please note: Our normal process is to give advanced warning of this
occurring, but we forgot to do that. A thousand apologies.)

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, feel free to reopen
this bug and simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we were unable to fix it before Fedora 15 reached end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" (top right of this page) and open it against that
version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
