Description Tim Waugh 2011-03-29 12:26:01 UTC
Description of problem:
I have a printer configured, with A4 as its default page size. My locale is en_GB.utf8.

When I select File->Page Setup... in Firefox, it says:

Format for: Any printer
Paper size: US Letter

This is wrong. If no particular printer is selected (i.e. any printer), it should use my locale to decide what paper size to use. Otherwise I will have to change this setting *every time I print*.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
firefox-4.0-2.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.See above.

It is interesting. I know it was problem for a long time (e.g., bug 238130), but it seems to be fixed upstream (e.g., https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=118563) and I cannot reproduce it here (new profile defaults to A4 for cs_CZ locale).

Are you sure you can reproduce this even with a new profile (so that we know that US Letter paper size is not caused by upgrade from previous version of FF)?

Thank you

Yes, this is reproducible.

From GNOME 3, here's how:

1. Go to the account menu, click System Settings, then User Accounts.
2. Click Unlock and enter the administrator password.
3. Click + and enter "New User" as the full name. Click Create.
4. For 'Language', make sure it is set to "English (United Kingdom)".
5. Enable the account by clicking on "Account disabled" and entering a password.
6. Log out, and log in as New User
7. Start a terminal window and enter "locale" to verify the locale settings
8. Start Firefox and select File->Page Setup...

Actual results:
7: all values are en_GB.UTF-8
8: Page size is US Letter

Expected results:
8: Page size is A4

Yes, apparently unfortunately I was wrong and the ancient upstream bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=147419 is still alive and doing just fine. However, we believe it is more appropriate to let it be resolved upstream.

We will continue to track the issue in the centralized upstream bug tracker, and will review any bug fixes that become available for consideration in future updates.

We would strongly encourage you to subscribe to the upstream bug as well (by logging in and adding yourself to the Cc list), so that you can provide whatever information required for the successful resolving of this issue.

Thank you for helping to make free software better.

Just to correct myself ... I can reproduce this bug with cs_CZ locale in a new account.
