Description Tim Waugh 2011-03-29 14:11:57 UTC
Description of problem:
I'm trying to add a parallel port HP LaserJet 6MP.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
control-center-2.91.93-1.fc15.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.MAKEDEV /dev/lp0
2.System Settings -> Printers, Unlock, click "+"
3.In "Local", there is a single entry but it has no text.
4.Click Add

Actual results:
At step 3, this is written to .xsession-errors:

(gnome-control-center:31027): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_strcanon: assertion `string != NULL' failed

After step 4, the dialog is closed but there is no printer in the list.

Expected results:
Some descriptive text showing that it's an HP LaserJet 6MP in the devices list.
A configured print queue after clicking Add.

Additional info:
I get this snippet from "lpinfo -l -v":

Device: uri = parallel:/dev/lp0
        class = direct
        info = HP LaserJet 6MP LPT #1
        make-and-model = HP LaserJet 6MP
        device-id = MANUFACTURER:Hewlett-Packard;COMMAND SET:PJL,MLC,PCLXL,PCL,POSTSCRIPT;MODEL:HP LaserJet 6MP;CLASS:PRINTER;DESCRIPTION:Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 6MP Printer;
        location =
