Did you happen to do a serial install?

Does /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz exist?

Comment 2 Clyde E. Kunkel 2011-03-31 14:26:06 UTC
Not a serial install and the file does not exist.

Out of pocket for a few days, will try a reinstall when I get back. Thx for looking at this.

Comment 3 Chris Lumens 2011-03-31 17:47:25 UTC
Check your syslog and your anaconda.log (you can attach them here, too) to see why that file does not exist. Perhaps there were read errors on the grub package, or perhaps it did not get installed for other reasons. /boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz not existing is definitely the reason for your grub.conf not containing those lines.

For what it's worth, I just did a DVD-based install and got the grub.conf I expected.

Comment 4 Clyde E. Kunkel 2011-04-06 17:52:04 UTC
Closing as it is not reproducible here...tried again with original DVD and then with a recent JLaska boot.iso. Hope I didn't create too much noise. Thx.
